Prior to the merger of Waterford County Council with Waterford City Council in 2014, Dungarvan was the county town and administrative centre of County Waterford.

Located just 46km south of Waterford City, it’s where the Colligan River meets the sea. The name of the town originally comes from the foundation of a monastery by St Garvan back in the 7th century.
