Meriden (/ ˈ m ɛər ə d ɪ n / MAIR-ə-din) is a city in New Haven County, Connecticut, United States, located halfway between the regional cities of New Haven and Hartford. The city is part of the South Central Connecticut Planning Region. In 2020, the population of the city was 60,850.

May 29, 2024 · Meriden, city, coextensive with the town (township) of Meriden, New Haven county, central Connecticut, U.S. Meriden is situated on the Quinnipiac River with the Hanging Hills to the west. It was settled in 1661 by Jonathan Gilbert, who named it for his birthplace, Meriden Farm in Dorking, England.
Nov 29, 2023 · A working town between New Haven and Hartford, Meriden was an important manufacturing center in the 19th and early 20th century. The city was most famous for its silver and cutlery, but also produced glassware, guns, musical instruments and kitchen appliances.
In the 1600s and 1700s Meriden was a rural or suburban sector of the town of Wallingford. Situated halfway between the Connecticut Colony on the north (Hartford - Wethersfield) and the New Haven Colony on the south, it became a stopping place for colonists who traveled by horse or by foot.

Walk up the 32 feet 976 ft above sea level to the top of historical Craig Castle in Hubbard Park with spectacular views of the states of Conn Mass & NY. Worth a day trip.
