Synopsis. In the year 1915 during the First World War, Michael (Oscar Issac), an Armenian, who is naïve yet kind-hearted, arrives in Constantinople and meets his uncle to tell him he is going to medical school. His uncle has a wife and two daughters. The daughters have a dance instructor, Ana, (Charlotte Le Bon).
For being a romance film, "A Promise" certainly lacks in romance. The movie tells the story of an aging factory owner Karl Hoffmeister, his beautiful young wife Charlotte, and the promising youngster he takes in as his protégé. Eventually, a forbidden love ensues as Friedrich becomes enamoured with his boss' wife.
