The song tells the story of a battle between the Highland men and the Lawland men at Harlaw. The protagonist encounters Sir James the Rose and John the Graeme on their way to the battle. Despite the odds against them, the Lawland men, led by Forbes and the Graeme brothers, defeat the Highland men and are victorious. Add this song to my favorites.
