  2. Aug 20, 2005 · Bertrada of Laon, also called Bertha Broadfoot (cf. latin: Regina pede aucae i.e. the queen with the goose-foot), (710/27 – July 12, 783) was a Frankish queen. She was born in Laon, in today's Aisne, France, the daughter of Caribert of Laon.

    Bertrada was also known as Berta; "au grand pied" She was born in 720 (some have as early as 710) Her father was Charibert, Count of Laon Her mother is unknown.

    When Pepin assumed the Frankish Merovingian Monarchy in 751 Bertrada became Queen of the Franks. After Pepin's death she lost this title in 768. However she lived at her son Charlemagne's court and their relationship was considered to be excellent.

    She died 12 Jun or Jul 783 in Choisy-au-Bac and is buried in the église de l'abbaye royale de Saint Denis
