Biography. Jacob Abraham Camille Pissarro ( piss-AR-oh, French: [kamij pisaʁo]; 10 July 1830 – 13 November 1903) was a Danish-French Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist painter born on the island of St Thomas (now in the US Virgin Islands, but then in the Danish West Indies).
In 1884 Pissarro moved from Pontoise to the tiny hamlet of Eragny, on the Epte River. The following year he met the young avant-garde artists Georges Seurat and Paul Signac and became a convert to their new approach to painting, known as Neo-Impressionism.
