- Mindhunter. This show has a novel premise, with two FBI agents from the bureau’s Behavioral Science Unit interviewing a laundry list of real-life and well-known serial killers in order to try to find out what’s going through their heads.
- Breaking Bad. Obviously. We’re not going to berate you if you haven’t seen it yet, but you know you’ve got a treat in store when you do get round to it, and that you’re probably going to have to cancel all your plans until you’ve finished it.
- Ozark. When the premise of Ozark was revealed - Jason Bateman and Laura Linney star as as a married couple who have to relocate their family to the Ozarks after a money laundering scheme goes awry - everyone thought the show was just going to be Breaking Bad lite, but after four seasons it is much more than that.
- Peaky Blinders. If Gangs of New York had a sequel and that sequel was set in Birmingham, this is what it would be. An absolute British triumph of television starring Cillian Murphy as crime boss Tommy Shelby as he runs rackets post World War I with his flat-capped gang, The Peaky Blinders.
- Open Your Eyes. Julka ends up in an amnesia treatment center after she loses her family. When she begins to have strange dreams that will become too real for her, she wonders if the place where she is, is the one she thought it was so far.
- The Forest. The Forest is a French crime drama television series, created by Delinda Jacobs and directed by Julius Berg. It debuted on Netflix internationally in July 2018 and is one of our favorite crime thrillers for this year.
- The Break. This is a hidden gem: There is a high chance you have not heard of this series but it is the real deal: A police detective mourning a painful loss moves back to his peaceful hometown, only to be drawn into a murder case that dredges up dark secrets.
- The Frankenstein Chronicles. The Frankenstein Chronicles is a British television period crime drama series that is designed as a re-imagining of Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein.

- Breaking Bad. Seasons: 5. Episodes: 62. Cast: Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, Bob Odenkirk. IMDB Rating: 9.5/10. It may come as no surprise that Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad sits at the very top of our list.
- Mindhunter N. Seasons: 2. Episodes: 19. Cast: Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, Anna Torv, Sonny Valicenti, Stacey Roca. IMDB Rating: 8.6. David Fincher is no stranger to crime-dramas and neither is actress Charlize Theron.
- Ozark N. Seasons: 2. Episodes: 20. Cast: Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Julia Garner, Sofia Hublitz, Skylar Gaertner, Jason Butler Harner. IMDB Rating: 8.3. Known more for his comedy than serious roles, many questioned the casting choice of Jason Bateman as the male lead in Ozark.
- Narcos N. Seasons: 3. Episodes: 30. Cast: Pedro Pascal, Wagner Moura, Boyd Holbrook, Alberto Ammann, Paulina Gaitan. IMDB Rating: 8.8. Advertising. Kickstarting the wave of excellent crime-dramas on Netflix, Narcos was the “OG.”
