    The twenty-ninth season of Dancing with the Stars premiered 14 September 2020 on ABC.

    Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews did not return as hosts; Tyra Banks was hired as the new host and executive producer.

    Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli returned as judges. Len Goodman did not return as a judge this season, due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, but had a role sharing his expertise from the UK. Dancing pro Derek Hough replaced him on the panel.

    On 23 November 2020, Bachelorette star Kaitlyn Bristowe and Artem Chigvintsev were announced as the winners; Catfish host Nev Schulman and Jenna Johnson placed second; rapper Nelly and Daniella Karagach placed third, and actress Justina Machado and Sasha Farber placed fourth.

    29th season premiered 14 September 2020 in its usual Mondays-at-8 time slot.

    ABC was looking to bring back Christie Brinkley for this season and get Charlie Sheen, who rejected their offer to participate in the previous season.

    Producers revealed in March that a same-sex couple would dance in the competition this season. The U.K.'s Strictly Come Dancing would also feature a same-sex couple in its next season, while the Australian version had already had one in its last season. This plan was changed and did not happen until the following season.

    The premiere date was announced on 18 August 2020.
