The Gathering (1977) On book tour this past month, I was asked repeatedly about a much beloved TV movie from 1977 entitled The Gathering which starred Edward Asner, Maureen Stapleton, Gregory Harrison and Stephanie Zimbalist among others.
In a nutshell, Adam Thornton (Ed Asner), estranged from his wife Kate (Maureen Stapleton) and their 4 children, finds just before Christmas that he is about to die from an incurable illness, and wants to clear up loose ends while he can.
