You get 2 spell critical from eye of the beast so that is 20SP, which is less than the 29SP provided by Briarwood Reed, so Reed is better in PVE. It's worth noting that In PVP burst damage is superior, so I would recommend dropping band for eye in most PVP situations.

One of the ways the GMs hated about it were players who intentionally stood just far enough out of range of PvP NPCs like standing in front of Warsong Gulch entrance and sending the pets to attack the NPC vendors.
