Frank Cullotta was the only “mob celebrity” who actually called out Gianni on his bullshit. He exposed him as a fraud who forgot to stop pretending to be a gangster after The Godfather. Interestingly, Gianni never said a word in response until after Cullotta died.
Apparently the mob didnt want the word "mafia" used and forced Russo on the movie to be his eyes and ears on set. That being said Russo is probably full of shit about that too. What's true: nothing. What's not: everything. Literally everything he says is lies.
