Designer. Something Missing? Almost all model bus collectors around the world will know the name John Gay. John’s lists of buses for sale are legendary, and his knowledge of the bus scene is limitless.
This model is the Corgi 469-A-27 London Transport Routemaster Bus in Black. This model was released with John Gay advertising on both sides and in place of the front and rear route boards. Both lower sides of the bus are marked John Gay for most model buses in gold on two lines and both upper sides carry.
There seems to be no definitive list of the Code 2 models produced by John Gay from 1979, and apart from the list in Mike & Sue Richardson's list in their Vol 4 book of Dinky Toys, I have only seen one other, smaller list on the internet.
John Gay was a career commodity broker who moved into Dinky Toys in 1975. Up to its closure in 1979, he had a strong trading relationship with the Dinky factory in Liverpool and is also alleged to have bought stock directly from the receivers.
