Dennis was born Leslie Dennis Heseltine on 12 October 1953 [1] in the Liverpool suburb of Garston. [2] His mother worked in a factory while his father, who worked in a betting shop after serving in the Royal Navy during the Second World War, was listed as a football player on the books of Liverpool FC but did not play for the first team. [3]
After Gee's death in 1986, Dennis become more of an all-round light entertainer, and nowadays is better known for having been the longest-serving host of Family Fortunes, and breaking down in the Big Brother house. In 2006 and 2022 he returned to the game show scene as host of Five's In the Grid and as stand-in host of Countdown .
