- Jon Hamm As Don Draper. The brooding protagonist of Mad Men, philandering ad executive Don Draper is played by Hamm. Along with Tony Soprano and Walter White, Don is one of the most iconic antiheroes of the “Peak TV” age.
- Elisabeth Moss As Peggy Olson. Peggy Olson, one of the feminist heroes of Mad Men, is played by Moss. Peggy was introduced as Don’s secretary before rising through the ranks to become a top copywriter with her own office.
- John Slattery As Roger Sterling. John Slattery plays the hedonistic Roger Sterling, a managing partner at Sterling Cooper and later a founding partner at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce.
- Christina Hendricks As Joan Holloway. Played by Christina Hendricks, Joan Holloway (later Joan Harris) is introduced as Sterling Cooper’s office manager and head of the typing pool.
The series's main character is charismatic advertising executive Don Draper (played by Jon Hamm), who is initially the talented creative director at Sterling Cooper. Though erratic and mysterious, he is widely regarded throughout the advertising world as a genius; some of the most famous ad campaigns in history are shown to be his creations.

- Roger Sterling. Roger is one of the most entertaining characters in "Mad Men." John Slattery delivers a very complex performance. There are points at which Roger is fun to hate, but at times, he shows his vulnerabilities.
- Lane Pryce. Lane Pryce (Jared Harris) doesn't show up until the third season, but he instantly became one of the most fascinating characters in the series.
