Following a donation from the Trustees of Edmund Robert Harris, the decision was made to change the name to the ‘Harris Institute’, alongside a new logo.
Following a United Kingdom government re-organisation of technical education, the name was changed to the ‘Harris College’, with another new logo being adopted.
The Harris College was designated by the UK Central Government as a polytechnic, and became ‘Preston Polytechnic’. This new designation also came with a redesigned logo, starting the trend of the organisation's use of red in their colour scheme.
Preston Polytechnic changed its name to ‘Lancashire Polytechnic’. This was the first use of the Red Rosein the main logo of the organisation from this point on.
Lancashire Polytechnic became the ‘University of Central Lancashire’after the Government bestowed degree-awarding powers to polytechnics. This came with a redesign to the logo, with the Red Roses having white outlines, and a greater emphasis on the 'University' and 'Lancashire' in the typography above.
A new logo was introduced to emphasise the abbreviation 'UCLan', in an effort to modernise the university. The log redesign came with a stronger emphasis on the abbreviation, and a more simplified font compared to the typeface used since the designation as a Polytechnic in 1973.
In September 2020, the university launched its new brand, which changed the primary colour of the logo to a blue, a drastic change from the original black and red scheme adopted by the university since 1984.
