NYU Langone Hospital – Long Island is a hospital in Mineola, New York that is the Long Island hospital base of NYU Langone Health System. It was founded in 1896 as Nassau Hospital and was later renamed to Winthrop-University Hospital.
NYU Winthrop Hospital’s 591-bed medical center, with more than 75 divisions of specialty care and an ACS Level 1 Trauma Center, offers current NYU Langone patients on Long Island comprehensive inpatient care, as well as outpatient care through a network of healthcare facilities closer to home.
In 2019, NYU Langone extended its reach once again, this time to Nassau County on Long Island. Our acquisition of Winthrop University Hospital, a 591-bed acute-care hospital in Mineola, enlarged the NYU Langone Health system by 25 percent.
With more than 125 years of history serving our communities on Long Island, the Department of Surgery at NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine and NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island, formerly Winthrop Hospital, is a leader in clinical services, education, and research that furthers our mission of providing expert surgical care.
Located in Mineola, New York, Winthrop-University Hospital is Long Island's first voluntary hospital. As a major regional health care resource, this 591-bed teaching hospital has more than 4,000 employees, including 700 nurses and nearly 1,400 full-time and voluntary attending physicians.
The hospital has been at the forefront of healthcare on Long Island, opening the area's first social services department, cardiac research laboratory, the first regional diabetes education center and the first to offer same-day surgery.
