AJS History - A Timeline. AJS - the initials of Albert John Stevens, one of the four founding brothers. They produced motorcycles from 1910 to 1945. 1856 J. Stevens and Co was established by Joe Stevens in 1856 in Wedensfield, Wolverhampton as a blacksmith works. He and his wife had nine children, all of whom became involved in the business.
