Summaries. An Irish rogue wins the heart of a rich widow and assumes her dead husband's aristocratic position in 18th-century England. In the eighteenth century, in a small village in Ireland, Redmond Barry (Ryan O'Neal) is a young farm boy in love with his cousin Nora Brady (Gay Hamilton).
Barry Lyndon, falling in and out of love and success, may see no pattern in his own affairs, but the artist sees one for him. Perhaps Kubrick’s buried theme in “Barry Lyndon” is even similar to his outlook in “2001: A Space Odyssey.”
In picaresque detail, Barry Lyndon chronicles the adventures of an incorrigible trickster (Ryan O’Neal) whose opportunism takes him from an Irish farm to the battlefields of the Seven Years’ War and the parlors of high society.
