After Ebsen's aborted stint as the Tin-Man, Jack Haley began filming scenes with Judy Garland and Ray Bolger on November 10, 1939, filming the Tin-Man's introduction.
No footage of Ebsen as the Tin Man has ever been released – only photos taken during filming and makeup tests. His replacement, Jack Haley, assumed Ebsen had been fired. The makeup used for Haley was quietly changed to an aluminum paste, with a layer of clown white greasepaint underneath, in order to protect his skin.
Ebsen in original Tinman makeup. Ebsen returned to the MGM studio on December 13, not to work on the Oz project but on a movie called Four Girls in White. Deleted scene with Tinman Ebsen. He went on to a long career, and achieved late fame in the TV series The Beverly Hillbillies and Barnaby Jones.
