Shortly after the song hit the charts, Kipps and McCoy formed McCoy-Kipps Productions and went on to produce records for Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Melba Moore, and former lead singer of the Temptations, David Ruffin. Kipps wrote Ruffin’s only post-Temptations hit, Walk Away From Love. In 1975, Kipps moved to Manhattan.
