Immerse yourself in the history of South Carolina. An architectural treasure in its own right, the South Carolina Historical Society Museum is housed in a National Historic Landmark building and features interactive exhibits on the people, places, and movements that shaped the state and nation.
The archives of the South Carolina Historical Society contain manuscripts, letters, maps, photographs, and artifacts on South Carolina history. The reading room is located in the Addlestone Library and is open Monday through Friday.
As historic preservation has evolved into more than a movement to simply save historic buildings, the Foundation has broadened its scope into balancing the needs of modern society with protecting the sensitive fabric of the historic district.
The South Carolina Historical Society Museum is Charleston's newest and most engaging museum in the city. Six rooms of fascinating material and incredible interactive displays introduce visitors to the history and culture of South Carolina.

The South Carolina Historical Society is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1855 to preserve South Carolina's rich historical legacy. The SCHS is the state's oldest and largest private repository of books, letters, journals, maps, drawings, and photographs about South Carolina's history.
