And talent is on display, too, in "Cop Land''--in the dialogue, in the way the characters are developed, in the ambition of the story. But clarity is lacking.

Our review: Parents say: Not yet rated Rate movie. Kids say: Not yet rated Rate movie. Released in 1997, casting Stallone as an overweight downtrodden sheriff and surrounding him with a trio of gangster movie veterans cast as police officers, proved to be a tantalizing setup. But ultimately Cop Land was a commercial and critical misstep.
