During Sheridan’s time in the Caribbean, she visited Puerto Rico in 1960, where she met a jazz guitarist named William Wales, better known as Dale. They quickly bonded, but didn't marry until their 25th anniversary in December 1985. They had one daughter, a photographer, and lived a happy life until Wales died of lung cancer on May 24, 2003.
