Dragnet, the radio series, premiered on NBC on June 3, 1949, and ended on February 26, 1957. A set of 314 original episodes aired between June 1949 and September 1955 with ".22 Rifle For Christmas" and "The Big Little Jesus" usually re-run during Christmas time. [1]

It's no-nonsense approach to presenting the dry, but realistic daily routines of police work, plus the stark drama of fighting criminals, made this series an all-time classic, both on radio, and later on, television.
Created by Jack Webb, who also starred as the main character, Sergeant Joe Friday, the show set the standard for police procedural drama. Initially a radio series, 'Dragnet' was pioneering in its focus on realism and procedural detail, borrowing heavily from actual police case files and terminology.
