- Niffler. The first beast we meet in the film is the adorable but maddening Niffler that escapes from Newt's suitcase. Twice. Nifflers are essentially hyperactive kleptomaniacs, swiping everything shiny they can get their hands on.
- Occamy. An Occamy is a beautiful, unique creature — something that's clear from the moment we see a baby Occamy burst out of its silver egg right before Jacob and Newt's eyes.
- Bowtruckle. Bowtruckles have got to be one of the most adorable creatures, not just in "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," but in all of Potterdom.
- Billywig. This blue hummingbird-like insect has a number of blink-and-you'll-miss-it scenes as it flits around New York throughout the movie, then disappears never to be seen again.

The second creature we meet in the movie is just seconds old as we see it emerges from a silver egg in Newt's hand, right before Kowalski's eyes in the bank. We later learn that this is an Occamy hatchling.
Another fantastic creature which pops up throughout the movie are house elves, a familiar part of the Harry Potter movies. In Fantastic Beasts elves can be seen working in the Magical Congress of the United States of America's headquarters and an elf barman serves up the giggle water from behind the bar in the speakeasy, The Blind Pig.

Newton has a heard of Mooncalves basking in the moonlight on a hill in his suitcase, they can be shy and will only emerge from the burrows on a full moon. The Mooncalf has pale grey skin and large bulging eyes suited to low levels of light. Mooncalves will perform a mating ritual consisting of dance-like moves when exposed to moon light.
