Wonderful visit here in October. The lighthouse was built in 1858 and is 168 feet tall. There are a number of trails around the lighthouse leading to the beach and the parking lot. The walk up to the top takes a few minutes and is narrow in some places. The views on top are spectacular !

The first Fire Island Lighthouse was an eighty-five-foot-tall octagonal tower, built using Connecticut River blue stone, whose purpose was to mark the entrance to Fire Island Inlet and the eastern entrance to New York’s lower bay.
Apr 27, 2022 · The second Fire Island Lighthouse, the one now standing, was completed in 1858. It is 168 feet tall and can be seen 21 nautical miles out at sea. It was fitted with a Fresnel Lens, a revolutionary lighting system invented in 1821 by Frenchman Augustin Fresnel.
