  2. Rhein-Kaserne was built in the Karlsruhe suburb of Knielingen from 1935-38. It was occupied by the U.S. Army as Gerszewski Barracks. The photo on the left shows the Hoheitszeichen on a building beside the gate – remains of the swastika still appeared under U.S. Army control in the 1950s and 1960s.

  5. Gerszewski Barracks, now occupied by the 73rd AAA Bn, the 18th Ord Co, components of the 552nd FA Bn, 66th Ord Bn and 620th Engr Co, and 25th Sig Bn, was named for Sgt Adolf C. Gerszewski of the 397th Infantry Regiment, awarded the Silver Star posthumously in WWII.
