Detective Pikachu 2, officially Detective Pikachu Returns, has finally been revealed for Switch at June's Nintendo Direct.
Announced with a trailer showing a colourful 3D Pokémon world, a release date of October 6 was also revealed. The trailer showed Tim Goodman and Detective Pikachu teaming up for another adventure, looking better than ever thanks to the original just being a Nintendo 3DS game.
Little of the story was shared during the Direct, though it did promise a city full of mysterious for the detective duo to solve. And don't worry, Detective Pikachu still loves coffee.
Not to be confused with the hit film, but essentially following the same story, the first game is a cinematic adventure game that follows protagonist Tim on a journey to find his father in Ryme City. Players travel around solving crimes, meeting trainers and Pokémon from all generations as they go.
It's definitely one of the more unique takes in the series, featuring a loud-mouthed talking Pikachu instead of the usual cute and calm version. The Pokémon Company has continued to break expectations of what a Pokémon game can be though, most recently doing so with the release of Legends: Arceus.
In our 8/10 review of the 3DS game, IGN said: "Detective Pikachu gives great insight into the world of Pokémon through its fun mysteries and wonderful coffee-loving lead."
