The Regiomontanus system is considered a house system defined by space. The house system is named after the German mathematician, astronomer and astrologer Regiomontanus (Johannes Müller of Königsberg, 1436-1476), but was invented by the Spanish Jewish astrologer Abrahma ibn Esra (-1167).

Regiomontanus described his system in 1467. His text was printed in 1490 in his Tabula Directionum. The description by Regiomontanus would lead to the most important house system until the start of the twentieth century when the Placidus system gained popularity.
