The newest high school in the district, it is named after openly gay civil rights activist Bayard Rustin, himself a West Chester native. Construction began in 2003 and the school opened in 2006. Rustin was named one of Newsweek's top 500 high schools in America in 2011.
high school attendance guidelines Credit may be denied to those students who accrue more than 20 cumulative absences in a yearlong course. Credit may also be denied for those students who accrue more than 10 cumulative absences in a semester course.

A four-year comprehensive high school and the newest of the district’s three high schools, Rustin has received the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Academics and the Pennsylvania Keystone Achievement Award for its commitment to academic success.
Bayard Rustin High School is an overall great school with high-achieving academic students and a large variety of sports and extracurricular programs. The environment at the school is safe and suitable for learning, but the diversity is low.
Rustin was an international figure and one of the most famous graduates of the West Chester Area School District. In naming the new high school after him, the district recognizes his contribution to human rights throughout the world.
