   Is 'the scapegoat' a book-to-film adaptation?

   • While I almost never say this about book-to-film adaptations, this 2012 version of "The Scapegoat" is, in my opinion, much better than Du Maurier's original novel, not to mention the 1959 film with Alec Guinness, which followed the book very closely.

   Is the scapegoat worth watching?

   • The ending is a bit peremptory, betraying the fact that THE SCAPEGOAT was not without its production difficulties, especially when scriptwriter Gore Vidal had to deal with an increasingly alcoholic director. Nonetheless THE SCAPEGOAT is definitely worth a view, if only for Guinness' versatility as an actor.

   32 Reviews. Hide Spoilers. Sort by: Filter by Rating: 8/10. Loved it. blanche-2 16 September 2013. I liked this "Scapegoat" from 2012 better than the 1959 version, though they are both good. This one is warmer and I love the message the maid gives John at the end.
