     The 408

     status code indicates that the server would like to shut down an unused connection with the client. It's defined in the RFC 7231:

     6.5.7. 408 Request Timeout

     The 408 (Request Timeout) status code indicates that the server did not receive a complete request message within the time that it was prepared to wait. A server SHOULD send the "close" connection option in the response, since 408 implies that the server has decided to close the connection rather than continue waiting. If the client has an outstanding request in transit, the client MAY repeat that request on a new connection.

     But what does the term mean? Here’s an easy way to think about it.

     Let’s think of a web server as a pizza shop that needs to take orders over the phone (requests for web pages).

     Traditional Web Server

     The pizza shop hires operators (processes/threads) to take orders over the phone. Each operator has one phone line. After the operator is done taking the order, the operator keeps the customer on the line until the pizza (response web page) is done baking and then tells them it’s ready to pick up.

     So the pizza shop needs to hire as many operators as the number of pizzas that may be baked at once in order to serve all customers who call in.

     Event-Driven Web Server

     The pizza shop only hires one operator, but has trained the operator to hang up after taking the order, and call the customer back when the pizza is ready to be picked up.

     Now one operator can serve many customers.

     There isn't really an exact answer. I'd say a good guide post is a data centered architecture is one where the clients need to know the data model and can access/manipulate it directly.

     A client/server architecture, there is normally some abstraction of the data layer from clients so that the data model can change only impacting the server layer, not the client layer.

     In the former anything other than an additive change to the data model is likely to cause clients problems. In the latter you (as the data model owner) have more flexibility, but you also have code the abstraction yourself

     Using a blocking socket, execution will wait (ie. "block") until the full socket operation has taken place. So, you can process any results/responses in your code immediately after. These are also called synchronous sockets.

     A non-blocking socket operation will allow execution to resume immediately and you can handle the server's response with a callback or event. These are called asynchronous sockets.
