   • I highly recommend Wilder Ranch State Park. It's ideal for hiking, biking, families, and especially out-of-town visitors who want a classic Northern California coastal experience. First of all, don't follow the directions on yelp. They'll lead you to park on the side of the road and go down a dangerously steep "trail" (not a trail).

    You can get information on the State Park website. There is a very nice campground as part of Henry Cowell State Park which is between Scotts Valley and Santa Cruz. Only a few miles from the beach.
