William Bendix. Actor. He was born in New York City, in a cold-water flat at Third Avenue and 45th Street in 1906, the only son of Oscar Bendix and the former Hilda Carnell. A gruff, coarse-featured character player, with a voice to match, Bendix was typically seen as a working-class urban type.
Bendix died in Los Angeles at age 58 in 1964 as the result of a chronic stomach ailment that brought on malnutrition and ultimately lobar pneumonia. He was interred at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills, Los Angeles .
