Note the colours of this painting, particularly the purple/violet lower edge and the similarity with the image below. For comparison, a more intensely processed image is also shown. Harald Moltke, Iceland, 7th January 1900 Processed to match visual appearance Processed for visual impact

Note the purple lower/leading edge of the bright rays - this is one of the most striking colours typically visible in high-latitude auroras.

Note again the accent colours of purple and green on some of the bright rays in both the painting and the image. These strong accent colours typically appear where movement or development is most intense as seen in the video. Harald Moltke, Iceland , 23rd September 1899 Corona, 16th March 2012

In fact, it's one of the best aurora images I've ever seen!

  4. Jan 13, 2016 · The simplistic answer is because human eyes can't see the relatively “faint” colors of the aurora at night. Our eyes have cones and rods – the cones work during the day and the rods work at ...

  5. Jul 18, 2023 · Step 1: Establishing the Base. To create a dramatic contrast for your Aurora, begin by applying a solid black base coat to your canvas. Using a flat brush, select multiple shades of acrylic paint that resemble the vibrant colors of the Aurora.
