Unfortunately, all those "new" facts don't get printed in paper encyclopedias anymore. In addition, encyclopedias are a great way to train kids to cross reference and look for material in paper volumes. Until the entire corpus of human written materials is digitized (and free!) this is still a useful skill to learn.
