Darkest Day is the eighth studio album by the American death metal band Obituary. It was released on June 30, 2009, through Candlelight Records. Jun 23, 2009 · With Darkest Day, Obituary has delivered what is arguably the best album since the band’s 2005 comeback, and quite possibly their best work since The End Complete. For those fans that were on board for the last album, there is certainly no reason to jump off the train now.
Like the previous album, 'Xecutioner's Return', 'Darkest Day' is another attempt at a return to Obituary's roots: pure death metal, with deep grooves and horrifying vocals courtesy of John Tardy. Gone are the hardcore overtures which plagued some of their late 90s albums.

(Some would cite 1992’s The End Complete, or even 1990’s Cause of Death.) Obituary since then has tread water.
