Nov 6, 2020 · In 2019, 4,028 Ohioans died from unintentional drug overdoses, which was a 7.0% increase over 2018. Illicit fentanyl or fentanyl analogs were involved in 76.2% of 2019 overdose deaths, often in combination with other drugs. Deaths related to psychostimulants increased 46.6% and surpassed the number of deaths related to heroin.
In 2019, 4,028 Ohioans died from unintentional drug overdoses. Fentanyl was involved in the majority of drug overdose deaths among all sex and race/ethnicity groups, ranging from 71.3% among white non-Hispanic females to 83.5% among Hispanic males.

In 2019, the Office of Criminal Justice Services collected reports for 43 confirmed arrest– related deaths in Ohio. Homicide by law enforcement personnel accounted for 56% of those reported incidents. All arrest-related death subjects were male. Sixty-five percent were White males and Black males accounted for 30 percent of the deaths.
FAST FACTS. In 2019, 4,028 Ohioans died from unintentional drug overdoses. Franklin County had the highest number of unintentional drug overdose deaths (n = 547), a 15% increase over 2018 (n = 476).
