"After" is the final episode of the Apple TV+ limited series, Defending Jacob.
Andy Barber awakes from a phone call from Joanna Klein as he learns Leonard Patz has been found dead with a confession to murdering Ben. He quickly shares the news with the family and the case is dismissed later that morning. However, Dan believes he's still guilty and aggressively confronts the Barber family, though is subdued by Father O'Leary.
The Barber family adapt to their new normal, knowing they can't go back to the way things once were. Planning a holiday vacation to Mexico before moving to Colorado. Andy leaves his job after experiencing the other side. However, after reading the police report of Patz's suicide, he realizes Patz was coerced.
Andy confronts his father who claims he had nothing to do with it, knowing he and Patz had a connection. Billy offers Andy a final piece of advice, he can be a good man or a good father.
During their holiday, Jacob quickly befriends Hope Connors, a 16-year old girl from Toronto. He later decides to spend New Years Eve with her, which his parents agreed to. However, Jacob returns to the hotel early, claiming they got into an argument.
The following day, Hope is missing and Jacob is a person of interest. The Barbers are distraught that they have to go through a similar ordeal again. Late at night, Andy has a breakdown, admitting to Laurie that Patz was coerced, leaving her to believe once again, his son is guilty. The same night, Hope, who was drugged by someone at the party was found by the local police.
The Barber's return home the following day and not long after, put their house up for sale. Laurie's attitude around Jacob shifts, which the latter quickly realizes. The following day, Laurie takes Jacob for a haircut, where she demanded Jacob tell the truth about Ben as she accelerated. Jacob insists his innocent and pleads her mom to slow down. Eventually, Laurie swerves and crashes by a tunnel, leaving herself in critical condition and Jacob in a coma.
