Helene Hanfstaengl (1893-1973) was a native New Yorker. She met and married Ernst Hanfstaengl while he worked in New York.
She and her husband both suspected Hitler was impotent or "a neuter" (her phrase). When she was interviewed in the 1970s she mentioned she became disaffected by the Nazis after the Night of the Long Knives, though she never expressed any objection to the Holocaust, and seemed to like to play up her importance as a friend to this historical figure.
