Apr 10, 2020 · In Flirting Scholar (唐伯虎点秋香 tángbóhǔ diǎn qiūxiāng) (1993), Stephen Chow (周星馳 Zhōu Xīngchí) brings his trademark nonsense humor to the Ming Dynasty. Chow’s mandatory underdog this time around is Tong Pak Fu (唐伯虎 Táng Bóhǔ), a painter and poet who’s descended from a long line of kung-fu masters.
Flirting Scholar feels as if it's both the definition and pinnacle of madcap comedy. As far as I'm concerned, Stephen Chow is the undisputed king of kung fu comedies. Fans of Chow's hilarious mainstream films Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer will likely get a kick out of the kung fu hijinks in Flirting Scholar.
