- Cathedral of St. Bavo (Sint-Baafskathedraal) On the eastern side of Sint-Baafsplein stands the Cathedral of St. Bavo, a majestic building of brick and granite with a Romanesque crypt of its predecessor, Sint-Jans church.
- The Fortress of Gravensteen. Gravensteen is one of the strongest moated fortresses in Western Europe, surrounded by the River Lieve.
