   • Another of the places to visit near Munich that we really enjoyed was Schloss Nymphenburg. It was formerly the summer residence of the rulers of Bavaria and sits among extensive formal gardens and parkland.    • Viktualienmarkt food market. Just a short distance from Marienplatz is the Viktualienmarkt, which is another of my favourite things to see in Munich. The market is open daily except Sundays and holidays.
   • Hofbrauhaus. Just a short distance from Marienplatz is Munich’s most famous beer hall and brewery, the Hofbrauhaus which has become a local institution and tourist attraction in its own right.
