Nov 3, 2023 · Visit Marienplatz. Marienplatz, located in the heart of Munich, is an iconic square that has been around since 1158. Marienplatz is a vibrant and bustling destination for locals and tourists alike. It’s a great place to find unique shops, enjoy a beer at an outdoor café, or people-watch.
- Englischer Garten. When I decided to live in Munich for a couple months, knowing nearly nothing about the city, I somehow stumbled upon the Englischer Garten within my first few days.
- Marienplatz. Need a primer for getting acquainted with Bavaria’s biggest city? Start exploring Munich from Marienplatz, the main square of Altstadt (Old Town).
- Oktoberfest. I couldn’t possibly wrap up a session on what to do in Munich without mentioning the world’s most famous beer festival, Oktoberfest. I’ll admit that Oktoberfest wasn’t one of my favourite things to do in Munich—even if it belongs near the top of any Germany bucket list.
- Neuschwanstein Castle. Even though it’s far outside the city, no list of where to go in Munich is complete without mentioning Bavaria’s star attraction and an absolute must-see stop on any Germany road trip, Neuschwanstein Castle.
- Marienplatz. Most people start their Munich sightseeing at Marienplatz, the large square that sits at the heart of the old town. The train from the airport runs directly to Marienplatz and I always enjoy that moment when you emerge from the underground into the heart of the city, with the ornate and imposing Rathaus rising in front of you.
- Views from St Peter’s church tower. A few steps from Marienplatz is the church of St Peter’s with its 300 ft bell tower, which is one of the oldest churches in the city.
- Viktualienmarkt food market. Just a short distance from Marienplatz is the Viktualienmarkt, which is another of my favourite things to see in Munich. The market is open daily except Sundays and holidays.
- Hofbrauhaus. Just a short distance from Marienplatz is Munich’s most famous beer hall and brewery, the Hofbrauhaus which has become a local institution and tourist attraction in its own right.
- Marienplatz. Every tour of Munich should start at its heart. The central square is called Marienplatz (Our Lady’s Square) and has been the main square of Bavaria’s capital for almost a thousand years.
- Munich Residenz. The Munich Residenz is the ancient city castle (one of the largest in the world) of the Bavarian kings. It now houses a museum and one of the finest gem collections in the world.
- Alter Peter. Munich has many fantastic churches. But there is one, you absolutely can’t skip: St. Peter’s Church. It’s one of the favorite tourist attractions in the city because the church tower offers you the most spectacular panorama of the inner city.
- Hofbräuhaus. Munich and its beer are world-famous. There is a continuous tradition of more than 1.000 years of brewery art you can partake. The Hofbräuhaus is probably Munich’s most famous beer hall and has been copied all over the world.
Mar 5, 2023 · Viktualienmarkt. Church of Our Lady. Residence. Old Peter. English Garden. Hofbräuhaus. Olympic Park. Nymphenburg Castle. Siegestor and the Leopoldstrasse. Deutsches Museum. Court Garden. Odeonsplatz. Bavarian Parliament – Maximilianeum. Pinakothek of Modern Art. Brandhorst Museum.
Apr 5, 2024 · 1 – Cruise the cobbled streets on a bike tour, exploring hard-to-reach lanes. 2 – Wander around the English Garden (and check out the Eisbach Wave) 3 – Take a gourmet food tour of Viktualienmarkt. 4 – Pretend to be a Disney princess at Neuschwanstein Castle. 5 – Check off the Kunstareal District’s art museums.
