- Hunt the Downwind Sides. Keep in mind that during the breeding phase, bucks become highly efficient. Instead of boldly walking across a field, they might skirt the downwind edges or inside corners to scent-confirm any estrus females.
- Find a Love Nest. You do have another option and whether you make it your main play or a backup, consider looking for a buck love nest. Once bucks find a doe, do they want to parade it through a crowd of potential suitors, or spend more time alone?
- Find a Drifter. By scouting and setting up stands or blinds near highly visited food plots, agricultural fields or the routes in between, you stand a high chance of meeting up with a home territory buck.

In most places, the last days of November and first days of December are pretty uneventful in terms of rut activity, with a couple notable exceptions. - Fawns are seen alone or with other fawns. When the momma’s are being chased, they ditch their babies and let them fend for themselves.
- Tarsal glands get darker and darker. As stinky and nasty as they are to deal with after a successful November hunt, tarsal glands can provide several good key indicators to the observant hunter.
- Does are often seen alone and acting nervous or finicky. Does are on constant alert from the harassing bucks. You will often see them moving quickly and frequently checking behind them.
- Mature bucks are seen during daylight and little bucks run rampant. Simply put, the urge is on. Just like college boys in a coed dorm, they have one thing on their mind and they are willing to do incredibly stupid things to get that thing.
