The house, as the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum, is the most popular tourist attraction in Key West. The two-story house was built in 1851 of native limestone in a Spanish colonial style by noted marine salvager Asa Tift. Hemingway and Pfeiffer moved to Key West in Florida in 1928.
After two seasons in Key West, Pauline’s Uncle Gus purchased the house on Whitehead Street for them in 1931. The Hemingway home was built in 1851 in the Spanish Colonial style and was constructed of native rock hewn from the grounds.
