Terracina, town and episcopal see, Lazio (Latium) region, south-central Italy, situated on the Gulf of Gaeta (an inlet of the Tyrrhenian Sea) at the foot of the Ausoni Mountains, southeast of Rome. Originating as the Anxur of the Volsci tribe, it passed under Roman domination about 400 bce and became known as Tarracina.
