Chanute's 1896 biplane hang glider is a trailblazing design adapted by the Wright brothers, who "contrived a system consisting of two large surfaces on the Chanute double-deck plan". Chanute designed a twelve-winged glider, prepared for launch from the dunes of Miller Beach in 1896.
But their hopes were revived again on August 29 when Octave Chanute gathered a band of aeronautical enthusiasts and began testing glider designs at the Indiana Dunes near Miller, Indiana.
