  7. The name originated with Charles Boucher d’Orsay, the provost of the merchants of Paris. The area where Musee d'Orsay stands today, had remained at risk for fires, and so in 1708, Charles Boucher d’Orsay decided to construct the embankment, or ‘quai’ in French, which still bears his name today.
