Piers was a younger son of the Gascon knight Arnaud de Gabaston and his wife, Claramonde de Marsan. He was born at Béarn, Gascony, about 1284. Knt., Earl of Cornwall, Lord of the Isle of Wight, Baron of Wallingford, Berkshire, Trematon and Launceston, Cornwall, Beckley, Oxfordshire, and Burstwick and Knaresborough, Yorkshire. He was granted the barony of Beckley, without the manor of Beckley, in 1309. After his death it returned to the crown.

Jun 6, 2012 · Piers Gaveston was born around 1284, the son of a Gascon lord, who gave many years of loyal service to Edward I. In his early teens Piers became a member of the royal household. In 1300 he was moved to that of the Prince of Wales, the future Edward II. They were both about 16, took to each other and an extremely close friendship developed.
