- How to Enter. An entry fee of $15 payable to American Songwriter is required with each entry. By entering you agree that this entry fee is necessary to cover the processing and administration of the contest.
- Eligibility. The Contest is open to any songwriter or band from anywhere in the world. Employees and independent contractors of American Songwriter and their immediate families, as well as the judges panel, employees of sponsors and their immediate families, are not eligible to enter.
- Judging. This Contest is a talent and skilled-based business event. All entries are judged based on the quality of the lyrics and their suitability for musical composition.
- Prizes. The winning lyric, along with three (3) additional runners-up and ten (10) honorable mentions from each contest, will be published in the issue of American Songwriter that follows the deadline of each contest.

- Song Contest. American Songwriter’s yearly song contest allows songwriters to submit their lyrics and music compositions. It’s divided into ten categories: Americana, Blues, Christian, Country, Folk/Singer-Songwriter, Hip-Hop/Rap, Indie, Pop, Rock, and Teen.
- Great American Song Contest. The Great American Song Contest was created by songwriters for songwriters, lyricists, and composers worldwide. This competition differs from other contests because it “rewards” every contestant: each participant will receive a written evaluation from the judges involved, which can be priceless if you want to get valuable feedback from worldwide-known artists.
- International Songwriting Competition. This annual song contest is open to amateurs and professional songwriters from any country. The International Songwriting Competition (ISC) provides the opportunity to experience the songwriting competition and get your songs heard and analyzed by prestigious judges with extensive experience in the music industry.
The price per entry varies over the course of the competition cycle (please check below for the current price point). For example, if the current fee is $25 and you enter one song in two categories, the fee is $50. If you enter two songs in one category the fee is $50. If you enter one song in three categories, the fee is $75.
Spring – June 30th. Summer – September 30th. Fall – December 31st. You must submit a separate entry order for EACH lyric you enter. Read the following song contest rules carefully. Signing the entry form signifies that you have read and agreed to all contest rules. The DSA Lyric Contest is open to any lyricist.
